The Lemon Tree, Aberdeen Wed 20th May 2009 (25/05/09)

Roger Green:

It was a good start to the day. I found that I was staying in a Guest House on the same street as the Spiritualist Centre, the Samaritans office, a Seventh Day Adventist Church, and the Jobcentre. Everything you need at close quarters. After checking in, I wandered off to the Art Gallery to see "installations" of varying quality. A sleeping bag, for example. Or maybe it was just somebody's sleeping bag that they had left on the floor. After an hour or so of pondering the meaning of absolutely everything in the universe, I headed off to Pittodrie. A fine ground which, if you believe what you read, AFC are soon to be vacating. In the evening, I called at the pub just up the road from the Lemon Tree. I caught the first half of the UEFA Cup final and arrived at the venue just in time to see the last three songs from the support band. As usual, I didn't catch their name, but they did justice to The Doors' Break On Through. All in all this is one of the better venues where you might catch HMHB. Friendly staff and all that. I was interested to find out how Jerry Sadowitz had got on when he played there a couple of months previously. No great surprises from HMHB. Nigel was wearing a buttoned-shirt with a Crass logo, which drew one or two comments, and requests. The twenty-four hour garage now seems to be selling Lime sandwiches. Now there's a novelty item. Trumpton Riots seemed to be more mellow than normal. And I could be wrong, but spoonerisms may now be part of the act. I'm sure I heard reference to "joshers out mogging". Other than that, it was all much as you might expect.
